Moving to Sicily wasn’t something I had mapped out years in advance. I came looking for a different kind of life — one that felt a little slower, a little more meaningful, and maybe a little more adventurous.
I now live here full time with my Italian husband, building a life in Sicily one project, wrong turn, renovation, and unexpected discovery at a time. There has been a lot to learn — the language, the paperwork, the culture, the houses, and all the little things no one tells you before you move to another country.
Somewhere along the way, sharing those experiences became The Amateurs Abroad. My sister is part of The Amateurs Abroad too, joining me in Sicily for six weeks each summer when we travel, explore, laugh, and occasionally get completely lost together.
We’re not experts on Sicily — and that’s really the point. We’re experiencing it, learning as we go, and sharing what we discover along the way.
