Palermo isn't polished - and that's exactly what makes it unforgettable.
At first, Palermo was simply the big city we drove to for errands. But little by little, it became somewhere we actually wanted to explore. Every visit seems to reveal another market, church, tiny street or incredible meal we somehow missed the time before. Palermo is busy, imperfect and a little chaotic—and that’s exactly why we keep going back
PALERMO CATHEDRAL
A thousand years of Palermo in one place.
Palermo Cathedral is one of those places we never get tired of seeing. Built and changed over centuries, its mix of Norman, Arab and Gothic influences tells much of Palermo’s complicated history. Walk around the entire exterior—the details are incredible from every side.
QUATTRO CANTI
Four corners. Four seasons. One spectacular intersection.
Quattro Canti sits at the heart of Palermo’s historic center, where two of the city’s main streets cross. Each ornate corner represents a season, a Spanish king and one of Palermo’s patron saints. It’s busy, dramatic and almost impossible to walk past without looking up.
BALLARO MARTKET
Palermo at its loudest, liveliest and most delicious.
Ballarò is the kind of place that makes Palermo feel alive. Vendors call out from crowded stalls while locals shop for fruit, vegetables, fish, spices and everything in between. It’s colorful, chaotic and one of our favorite places to simply wander.
TEATRO MASSIMO
Grand, dramatic and impossible to ignore.
Teatro Massimo is one of Palermo’s great landmarks, but the real surprise is stepping inside. From the sweeping staircases to the ornate auditorium, everything feels wonderfully theatrical. Even if you’re not seeing a performance, it’s worth going in for a look.
